My heat doesn't go on. What should I check?

Here is a list of the most common items to check before you call for service.
• Be sure emergency switch (oil burner switch) is on.
• Be sure the thermostat is set above room temperature.
• Check to see if the water is at the proper level (steam systems only).
• Push the "reset button" on the relay. ONLY ONCE!
• If burner fails to ignite, turn emergency switch to "off" and call Spadafore Oil (978) 534-5171.

I think I am low on oil. How can I check it?

Usually a homeowner cannot check the oil level, but if you are on our automatic delivery system you don't need to worry yourself with the level. Our computerized degree day system assures that your tank has an adequate oil supply.

I would like to know how I can tell if I need a new furnace?

We need to come and evaluate your system to be able to advise you on the best course of action, if any is needed.

I have an above ground tank in my garage. Should I be concerned that it can explode or leak fumes into my home?

Fuel oil is a very stable petroleum product. Unlike other energy sources you do not need to worry about your house blowing up if you have a leak or smell. Regardless of how safe oil is, if you do have those problems you should contact us to fix them as soon as possible.

What is the life expectancy of an in-ground oil tank?

New tanks have a 30-year life expectancy (this would be on a STIP 3 cathodicly protected tank). For older tanks (generally older than 1985), the rule of thumb is 15-20 years, but it would depend on the surroundings of the tank. A tank sitting in water will most likely fail before a tank in dry ground.

How can I control home heating costs?

If your heating system is 15-18 years old or older, you can find significant energy savings and increased reliability when you buy a new heating system. Keep your heating system energy efficient and have it serviced every year. never try to repair it yourself. Have an energy efficiency test performed on your heating system. Clean and/or replace your filters. Keep your attic, walls, ceilings and floors well-insulated to keep heat indoors. Seal all cracks and holes to keep cold air outside. Caulk windows and weather strip around doors and close vents to shut off heat in unused rooms.

When do your guaranteed price programs start?

Special budget programs start in June. Other cap price programs usually start around mid summer.

Do you make emergency deliveries?

We do make emergency deliveries during reasonable hours, but we encourage you to call before you are in that situation. Emergency deliveries are very costly to you and us. There is a 200-gallon minimum and an overtime charge of $75.00 or more.

Do you have an answering service for after hours?

What can be done to improve the air quality in my home?

The use of high efficiency filters, humidifiers, and UV lights can dramatically increase the air quality in your home and can also help people with allergies and reactions to pollutions, animal dander and air bourne particles. Approximately 15 pounds of dirt per year goes through an average home. Using the right equipment with your heating system can make your home healthy in even the driest, coldest weather.

Does D.E.P. have to get involved?
